Hands-on Field Trips

2023 Field Trips ARE Sold Out

We are welcoming schools back to the farm for field trips on Thursdays and Fridays during the season.

About Our Field Trips

Educating children about farming and growing crops is our passion. Bring your class to Wayside Farm Fun in Berryville for a hands-on agricultural education experience.

This field trip is based on the Virginia Science Standards and is perfect for all ages – hop aboard the hayride, pick a pumpkin from the vine, and learn about bees and their role in pumpkin crops. Depending on your class age, choose between getting lost on the maze or hear from Spookley, the farm’s square pumpkin talk about anti-bullying.

How Our Field Trips Work

When school children arrive at the farm for a Fall field trip, they will be divided into tour groups by class. Each group will rotate between these farm leaning activities:
  • Pumpkin Classroom (the Life Cycle of the Pumpkin, the Bee Dance, and Pumpkin Varieties)
  • Spookley the Square Pumpkin – Bullying Prevention (October is National Bullying Prevention Month and Spookley at Wayside Farm Fun teaches students that all pumpkins are different, just like people)
    • Classes rotate to the Spookley station or the corn maze station bases on grade level
  • Walking through the corn maze (Working their way through the maze, students will be challenged to ask standards-based questions on life science topics, such as plants, photosynthesis, soil and nutrients)
  • Pumpkin Picking Experience (hop aboard the hayride and head to the pumpkin field)
  • The last stop is the Barnyard full of fun!
